Recently, The China Innovation Finance Institute | Chengdu has been working alongside global partners to continue to make progress in areas such as cross-border investment and financing model innovation, transition finance practices, and the deepening of “Belt and Road” financial cooperation. These efforts significantly contribute to enhancing Chengdu’s cross-border financial service capabilities under the Belt and Road initiative, providing effective support for the internationalization of the Western China financial center.
Singapore | Asia New Vision Forum 2025
In September, Calvin Chenggang Fu, Chairman of The China Innovation Finance Institute | Chengdu was invited to attend the “Asia New Vision Forum 2025” initiated by Caixin Global and supported by the Singapore government. He participated in a roundtable discussion on “AI Agents: Redefining Autonomy, Trust, And Governance.” The Forum, themed “Charting The Future Amid Uncertainty,” gathered policymakers, business leaders, and global thought leaders to explore the evolving role of Asia in changing global dynamics, and how pragmatic cooperation and innovation can drive sustainable growth. Key attendees included Gan Kim Yong, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry; Kevin Rudd, Australia’s Ambassador to the United States and former Australian Prime Minister; Djoomart Otorbaev, Former Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic; Lawrence H. Summers, Professor and President Emeritus of Harvard University, and former U.S. Treasury Secretary; Zhongming Cao, Chinese Ambassador to Singapore; and other notable global leaders.
Hong Kong SAR of China | Ninth “Belt and Road” Summit
In September, during the Ninth Hong Kong “Belt and Road” Summit, Calvin Chenggang Fu, Chairman of the Institute, was invited to attend a closed-door roundtable discussion hosted by The Hong Kong Trade Development Council, The Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, and The Authority of Qianhai Cooperation Zone. He delivered a speech and, together with others, explored further ways to promote the expansion of enterprises from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Chengdu into ‘Belt and Road’ countries, aiming to enhance high-level cooperation between Chinese enterprises and emerging international markets.
Kazakhstan | Astana Finance Days
In September, Calvin Chenggang Fu, Chairman of the Institute, along with Dr. Rui Ma and others, attended the 8th Astana Finance Days (AFD) and officially released the joint report by The China Innovation Finance Institute | Chengdu (CIFI) and the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), titled From Connectivity to Collaboration: Country Report on Kazakhstan, during the “Shaping the Financial Future of the Belt and Road” panel discussion. The 8th Astana Finance Day (AFD), hosted by the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), included more than 30 thematic panel discussions on topics such as infrastructure investment, green finance, and digital economy. More than 150 speakers engaged in in-depth discussions focusing on three key themes: financial capital, infrastructure capital, and institutional capital. The event brought together over 5,000 participants from more than 70 countries and regions, including brokers, bankers, investors, innovators, and representatives from the financial, technology, public, and quasi-public sectors. Notable attendees included Kanat Bozumbayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan; Timur Suleimenov, Governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan; Kanat Sharlapaev, Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan on Economic Affairs; Hani Kablawi, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of International at BNY Mellon; and Brett King, world-renowned futurist, entrepreneur, and bestselling author of Bank 4.0: Banking Everywhere, Never at a Bank.
Beijing | 2025 China International Fair for Trade in Services
On September 14th, during the achievement release session of the 2025 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, the Institute released the “Global Innovation Finance Series Achievements”. These included the Cross-Border Investment & Financing Digital Platform, the White Paper on Chengdu Enterprises Going Global, and the Global Advisory Council on Innovation Finance, among other achievements. The release event was held at Beijing’s Shougang Park and was simultaneously livestreamed domestically and internationally via the official CIFTIS channel, as well as platforms such as Xinhua News Agency, Youku, Baidu, Ifeng News, NetEase News, and Sina News. This marks the Institute’s third consecutive year of participation in the CIFTIS.
Shell | Transition Finance and Energy Finance Cooperation
In August, the Institute held a closed-door seminar with Shell (China), focusing on an in-depth discussion of the global and domestic developments and applications of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Representatives from Shell China provided a systematic explanation of the development, technology, and policy of CCS in China. Calvin Chenggang Fu, Chairman of the Institute, shared insights into the Institute’s research and practices in the areas of financial centers and sustainable finance. Moving forward, both parties will explore potential cooperation in areas such as technology promotion, investment and financing enhancement, and policy research.
Our Hong Kong Foundation | Hong Kong-Chengdu Innovation Finance and Cross-Border Investment & Financing Cooperation
In July, Calvin Chenggang Fu, Chairman of the Institute, along with Dr. Jane Lee, President of Our Hong Kong Foundation, Mr Kenny SHUI and Mr Ryan IP, both Vice President of Our Hong Kong Foundation and Executive Director of Public Policy Institute, and others, held a closed-door exchange focused on Hong Kong-Chengdu innovation finance and cross-border investment and financing cooperation in the context of the evolving global economic landscape. In September, Calvin Chenggang Fu, Chairman of the Institute, and Dr. Rui Ma, along with the research team, again engaged in a closed-door roundtable discussion with Our Hong Kong Foundation. The two sides focused on research cooperation in areas such as cryptocurrency finance, new energy finance, and Hong Kong-Chengdu innovation collaboration.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong | The 7th Greater Bay Area Chief Economists Forum 2025
In July, Calvin Chenggang Fu, Chairman of the Institute, attended the 7th Greater Bay Area Chief Economists Forum 2025 and delivered a speech. The forum was co-hosted by the School of Management and Economics (SME) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, the Shenzhen Finance Institute, and the CUHK Business School. He interpreted new opportunities for the globalization of Chinese enterprises from the perspective of cross-border investment and financing by discussing the development trends of sovereign wealth funds and Gulf financial markets, as well as sharing the Institute’s research and practices in this field.
