Recently, the China Innovation Finance Institute | Chengdu has continued to advance its work in urban financial development planning, academic exchange in finance, and Chengdu–Hong Kong cooperation.

Representatives of the Institute attended a thematic meeting on matters related to Chengdu’s “15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Western China Financial Center” and contributed to discussions on Chengdu’s development as the Western China Financial Center during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

In addition, Mr. Calvin Chenggang Fu, Director of Knowledge Exchange at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Hong Kong and a founding director of the China Innovation Finance Institute, participated in a roundtable discussion at the “Setting Sail for the 15th Five-Year Plan: Building a Financial Powerhouse — 2026 Jinyang Award Finance Academic Summit,” where he exchanged views on topics including high-quality financial development in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, innovative investment, and international talent.

The Institute also supported the Chengdu leg of the Sichuan Province and ASEAN Countries Study Tour organized by the Centre for Contemporary China and the World (CCCW) at the University of Hong Kong, accompanying the delegation on visits to leading technology enterprises as well as cultural and financial landmarks in Chengdu.

On May 9, a thematic meeting on matters related to Chengdu’s “15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Western Financial Center” was held in Chengdu.

The meeting featured reports and discussions on the progress of the plan’s formulation and its key considerations, with a focus on Chengdu’s work to build and develop the Western China Financial Center during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

Dr. Rui Ma and other representatives of the Institute attended the meeting and contributed to discussions on Chengdu’s development as a western financial center, financial development planning, and regional financial coordination.

The Institute’s participation reflects its continued focus on urban financial development planning and its commitment to supporting the high-quality development of regional finance.

Guangzhou | Joining the Roundtable at the 2026 Jinyang Award Finance Academic Summit, with a Focus on High-Quality Financial Development in the Greater Bay Area

From June 2 to 3, 2026, the 2026 Jinyang Award series of academic events, themed “Setting Sail for the 15th Five-Year Plan: Building a Financial Powerhouse,” was held in Guangzhou. The events received academic guidance from the National Institution for Finance and Development and were jointly organized by Guangdong University of Finance, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and the Guangzhou Financial Development Service Center under Lingnan Group. The program facilitated multi-level exchanges on building a financial powerhouse, academic exchange in finance, the promotion of financial culture, and regional financial development.

On June 3, the “Setting Sail for the 15th Five-Year Plan: Building a Financial Powerhouse — 2026 Jinyang Award Financial Academic Summit” was held in Guangzhou. During the summit, representatives of financial institutions from Hong Kong, Macao, and Guangzhou participated in a roundtable discussion titled “Practical Exploration and Collaborative Pathways for High-Quality Financial Development in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.”

Mr. Calvin Chenggang Fu,, Director of Knowledge Exchange at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Hong Kong and a founding director of the China Innovation Finance Institute, participated in the roundtable and shared his views on “Innovation Investment and International Talent: Empowering a New Landscape for Financial Development in the Greater Bay Area.”

Drawing on their respective areas of practice, the panelists discussed innovative investment, international talent, green finance, and the role of financial institutions in supporting the development of the Greater Bay Area.

Together, they explored practical pathways through which finance can contribute to the high-quality development of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

Chengdu | Supporting the HKU CCCW Study Tour in Chengdu and Accompanying Visits to Technology Enterprises and City Landmarks

In June 2026, the Centre for Contemporary China and the World (CCCW) at the University of Hong Kong organized a study tour to Sichuan Province and ASEAN countries. The itinerary covered Chengdu, China; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia, facilitating multi-level exchanges on regional cooperation, scientific and technological innovation, industrial development, and international engagement.

From June 7 to 9, the HKU CCCW delegation visited Chengdu. The Institute organized the Chengdu leg of the study tour. Together with Dr. Rui Ma and Ms. Chang Sun of the Institute, the delegation visited leading technology enterprises in Chengdu, including ADA Space and Aerofugia, and toured the Jiaozi Financial Museum. Through visits to cutting-edge technology enterprises and financial landmarks, the delegation gained deeper insights into Chengdu’s development in commercial aerospace, the low-altitude economy, scientific and technological innovation, and financial history.

During the visit to ADA Space, a leading enterprise in China’s commercial aerospace sector, the delegation learned about the integrated application of space computing and artificial intelligence, as well as developments in commercial aerospace. The participants also exchanged views on frontier technological innovation and the development of the commercial aerospace industry.

During the visit to Aerofugia, a leading enterprise in China’s low-altitude manned aircraft sector, the delegation learned about developments in low-altitude manned aerial vehicles and held a roundtable discussion with Mr. Liang Guo, CEO and Chief Scientist, and the company’s team. They discussed the development prospects and practical constraints facing commercial aviation and the low-altitude economy in Hong Kong SAR and Chinese mainland, as well as the overseas expansion of high-tech enterprises.

The delegation was subsequently invited to visit the Jiaozi Financial Museum, where it learned about the development of Chengdu’s financial sector and the city’s efforts to promote financial culture.
